Trikandiyur Shiva temple is believed to have been consecrated by Parasurama, one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu who created the land of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva with the Tamil trinities - Appar, Sundar and Thriguna also being worshipped here. The temple has been built in the traditional architectural style. It is spread across several acres and dotted with bilva trees - acclaimed for its medicinal properties. The temple pond is almost the same size as the temple. Mandala kalam, observed from November to December, is when the 41-day shakti puja is conducted.The sanctum sanctorum remains closed when the shakti puja is performed from 3 AM to 4 AM.
