Malappuram has many picnic spots thanks to its landscape. But not many know that the district provides ample opportunities for camping and trekking. Arimbra Hills, which has trekking trails, camping sites and viewpoints is one of the popular sites. The natural settings here are reminiscent of Ooty. You can also find several ruins of ancient Jain temples and other structures in and around the region.

Thiruvonamala, Poolappees, Muchikundu, Cheruppadi Mala, Kunnumpuram and Kakkad are suitable for hiking. Kodikuthimala is another popular trekking destination though the fact that it is also suitable for camping remains a well-guarded secret except to those who trek all the way up Amminikkadan Hills, the highest peak of Kodikuthimala. The beautiful surroundings of Vettilappara are another region that is waiting to be explored. Camping on the outskirts of Nilambur is a much sought-after activity. Vergara is also a much-loved camping spot.
